I have researched academic journals, as well as consulted maps published by Nepal's geological society in order to piece together this information accurately.
For this piece, I interviewed Nepal's most prolific rough gemstone wholesaler. His name is Hari Prasad Timsina, and he is the godfather of Nepal's admitedly small gemstone industry.
The story and video above took place the same day as a country wide-strike on public transportation. The images here were taken at a Maoist rally at which there were aproximately 15,000 supporters listening to the Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, speak.
I traveled outside the Kathmandu Valley to the north with a friend named Akrur in early February, 2009. This set of images with text describe that day.
